The key to proving oneself worthy to employers, regardless if CS/IT graduate or career-shifter, is building proof of skill. There are many ways to do this: from the usual portfolio to learning in public to open source contributions to speaking engagements to joining hackathons to volunteering. Get creative with it.
The easiest way to build your network by going to events and meetups, and volunteering in tech communities. From time to time, I post call for volunteers from communities here in the newsletter so watch out for them.
Regarding my story, it's also included in my podcast, three episodes in fact. Watch the first of those episodes here.โ
Good luck!
